Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

The Canada Dental Care Plan is a federal program that provides dental coverage to eligible Canadians who do not have access to private dental insurance. Administered by Sun Life on behalf of the Government of Canada, the CDCP is designed to remove the financial barriers that prevent many families from accessing the oral care they need.

Smile Lounge Dentistry is proud to be a participating CDCP provider. We accept plan members and will help you understand exactly what is covered before any treatment begins. Our goal is to make your visit as seamless as possible — from verifying your coverage to submitting your claims.

The CDCP covers a broad range of essential dental services. Diagnostic services include oral examinations and X-rays. Preventive treatments such as professional cleanings, scaling, fluoride applications, and dental sealants are covered. Restorative treatments including fillings (amalgam and composite) are included.

The plan also covers more complex procedures including root canal treatment on eligible teeth, extractions (including surgical extractions), periodontal treatments for gum disease, and certain crown procedures where clinically indicated.

Cosmetic procedures — such as teeth whitening, veneers placed purely for aesthetic reasons, and orthodontic treatment for adults — are generally not covered under the CDCP. During your consultation, our team will clearly identify which recommended treatments are covered and provide you with a pre-treatment estimate.

It is important to understand that coverage rates and eligible procedures are subject to the government's fee schedule. In some cases, there may be a patient co-payment depending on the procedure and your income tier. We will always inform you before treatment proceeds.
