The Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government initiative designed to help uninsured Canadians access essential oral health care. For millions of families who have gone without dental coverage, this program is a meaningful step toward better health equity.
To be eligible, applicants must not have access to private dental insurance, have an adjusted family net income below $90,000, and be a Canadian resident who files a tax return. Coverage amounts vary based on income: families earning under $70,000 receive 80% coverage; those between $70,000–$79,999 receive 60%; and those between $80,000–$89,999 receive 40%.
The CDCP covers a wide range of services including diagnostic procedures (examinations and X-rays), preventive treatments (cleanings, fluoride, sealants), restorations (fillings and crowns), root canal treatments, periodontal (gum) treatments, and certain extractions. Cosmetic procedures and orthodontics are generally not covered.
At Smile Lounge Dentistry in Milton, we accept patients covered under the CDCP. Our team is familiar with the program and will help you understand your benefits before any treatment begins. We want every patient to leave our office with a clear picture of what is covered and what, if anything, they may be responsible for.
To enroll, visit the Government of Canada website or call Service Canada. Once approved, you will receive a welcome letter and can begin using your benefits at any participating provider, including our clinic. If you have questions about whether you qualify or what the plan covers, do not hesitate to call our office — we are happy to help.
