Straightening your teeth is no longer a binary choice. Modern orthodontics offers patients more options than ever, and two of the most common are traditional metal braces and Invisalign clear aligners. Each has genuine advantages — the right choice depends on your specific needs, lifestyle, and treatment goals.
Traditional braces use metal brackets bonded to teeth, connected by wires that apply continuous pressure to shift teeth into alignment. They are highly effective for complex cases involving significant crowding, rotation, or bite correction. Because they are fixed, there is no risk of forgetting to wear them — compliance is automatic.
Invisalign uses a series of custom-made clear plastic aligners, each worn for approximately one to two weeks before moving to the next in the series. The aligners are removable, making eating and oral hygiene significantly easier than with braces. They are nearly invisible, making them popular with adults and teens who are self-conscious about treatment.
The trade-off is discipline. Invisalign requires wearing aligners for 20–22 hours per day. Patients who remove them frequently — to eat, during sports, or simply out of habit — will experience slower or less predictable results. Invisalign is also generally better suited to mild-to-moderate alignment issues rather than complex orthodontic cases.
